Matthews Introduces QR Codes
For Cast, Etched Plaques and Statuary

What is a QR Code?

The use of QR Codes is growing rapidly as a means of promoting businesses and providing information.  QR is short for Quick Response. A smart phone can scan the code with a downloaded QR Code reader App that links to a web site that provides whatever information you wish to user to see. You have probably seen QR's in magazines ads, on billboards or even on tee shirts.  Now they can be incorporated into your cast or etched plaques, signs as well as statuary.

How could you use a QR Code?

The product can be cast or etched on a plaque as line art. There just has to be enough contrast between the background and the raised surface of the code.  This exciting new concept has a myriad of uses.

  • For identification plaques and signs – the QR code could link to a company web site, or a current commercial about the company. You could add product or contact details
  • For sports related plaques  - they could be linked to a site with stats about the team or individual players, or perhaps an m-peg of a memorable play on YouTube.
  • For commemoration plaques, the QR could link to a web site about the individual being remembered.  For historical plaques there could also be links to history web sites or videos that explain the significance of the site.
  • Interpretive signs could have links to more details about a person, place or thing.
  • Statuary could have links about the individual, their history, accomplishments and significance to the venue displaying the piece.

How does the cell phone read the code?

The cell phone needs a QR code reader, like this one from Kaywa.   It takes literally 1 minute for someone with an iPhone or Android phone to find and install the reader.

How do you generate a code?

You can easily generate a QR code using a site like Qurify.com or many others.

Will your customers use them?

Today, few may use them, but those that do will certainly appreciate the leading edge technology, and those that don't will certainly realize the added impact they bring to their projects, which opens the door for conversation and a potential sale.
